Think about how learning a new language brings you closer to a new culture. Think about how language shapes your life. Think about what your life would be like without language.
These are only some of the topics which Lera Boroditsky touches upon in her research, which she outlines in this article. I enjoyed reading it immensely, both as a discourse analyst and a peace and conflict researcher. Language is at the basis of all conflict – and of all conflict resolution, so a better understanding of how language is shaping our world can only be useful. Incredibly fascinating and interesting from both a linguistic and a peace research point of view.
